HAIR COLOR FAQ’S

What is the difference between organic hair color and regular hair color?

Many of the ingredients in organic hair color are certified organic and the color has no ammonia. Regular hair color contains ammonia which is more toxic and harmful to the hair.

Is your color better than what I can but at the store?

Professional products contain stronger color molecules and more conditioning agents. A box of color does not always fit your personal needs. Our system customizes your hair color, you get the salon service without going to the salon.

What is the difference between semi, demi and permanent color?

Semi-permanent hair color uses a smaller color molecule is a deposit only color, which penetrates the cuticle layer. It does not lighten hair. Semi-permanent color usually lasts from 6-12 shampoos. Demi-permanent hair color has a higher volume peroxide than semi-permanent and penetrates further into the hair shaft. It does not lighten hair. This color lasts around 8-12 weeks depending on the condition of your hair and the products you use. It is more flexible than permanent color and is a good choice for refreshing the color on your ends, “trying” a color to see if you like it and blending in grey. This color can be applied over semi-permanent and permanent color.

Permanent color has a higher volume peroxide which allows the color to penetrate into the hair further and chemically change the hair. This can lighten the hair, cover gray and resistant hair. Because it deposits deeper into the hair it is more difficult to remove or lighten this color without unwanted results or damaging the hair. This color can be applied over semi and demi permanents colors.

How will I know what color is right for me?

Our team of experts will review the information you’ve sent and recommend your personal hair color based on that information and our expertise.

How often is it safe to color my hair?

With the Organic hair color it’s safe with in another two weeks.

Does the condition of my hair make a difference when I color my hair?

If your hair is over porous it needs to be reconditioned before you color it.

If your hair feels dry, over stretches when wet or has been over processed by perms or hair color, we recommend reconditioning with a product with added protein and moisture. Hair color lasts longer when hair has more protein in the cortex layer of the hair and the cuticle layer closes easily.

How do I recondition my hair?

We have several products that are known as deep conditioners. After shampooing with a Ph balanced shampoo, do not use the regular conditioner that you use in the shower. Towel dry your hair than use the required amount of deep conditioner to saturate your hair. Wrap your hair back up in the towel and leave the deep conditioner in 10-15 min. Rinse and style normally. This may need to be repeated a couple of times depending on the condition of your hair.

What if I have highlights and lowlights?

We have a single process, application color which will cover and blend the color you have now.

Can I lighten my hair with the Organic color?

In most cases your normal color can be lifted one or two shades. This has many determining factors that we take into consideration when formulating your personalized color. Please make note, this color will not lighten previously colored hair.

Sometimes I’m in the mood for something darker, can that be done?

Yes and as a suggestion, use a demi-permanent color first to see if you like the color.

If I’ve colored my hair, can I go darker?

Yes, color will always go darker. It’s recommended that you use a demi-permanent.  If it’s been 6 weeks and you have more than 50% gray in your outgrowth, then use a permanent color on your outgrowth and demi-permanent on your ends.

I have colored my hair on occasion, some of it is grown out, what would you recommend?

We will formulate a permanent color for your outgrowth and a demi permanent to refresh and blend the ends and previously colored hair.

Do you recommend I wash my hair before coloring it?

Yes, hair color can penetrate the cuticle layer easier if there are no products or chemicals on the hair shaft.

If I leave the color is on to long, will it be darker than I want?

The color is mixed to process a specific amount of time. It’s important to follow your directions regarding the length of time. It will not be darker because it’s left on to long.

What is an allergy or patch test?

A patch test is a simple “spot” application of color on the inside of your arm. It will determine your reaction to the color. If it turns red and/or itches your show signs of an allergy. If you don’t show any signs the first time, it is a good idea to perform this test before you color because the body changes and it can develop an allergy.

Can you explain the strand test?

After putting on your protective gloves, choose a strand of hair to test. Choose a strand that will not be clearly visible with your typical hair style. Separate the rest of the hair away from the strand using plastic clips so that the strand does not touch the rest of the hair after the hair color is applied. Apply the color to the strand of hair using the procedure outlined in your personal instructions. Mix 11/2 teaspoons of color to 1 teaspoon developer in the bowl provided, recapping the bottles immediately. After 24 hours check the results to see if you like the color, then proceed with the full color application.

How do I make sure my gray hair is colored?
The hair around your hair line is usually more gray or it may be more gray in the temples. Gray hair is always more resistant. Sometimes the color may look lighter there. Always start your color application in the areas where you are most gray and leave the color on as long as it says in your personalized instructions.

My hair feels cleaner if I wash it a couple of times after I color it, is this safe?

Of course, be sure to use a color safe shampoo and conditioner.

I’ve had  the color turn out to dark after I color it, is there anything I can do about that?

The formulation is important and our consultation process helps determine the correct color for you. Perform a strand test (outlined below). If the porosity of your hair is inconsistent this can lead to darker areas. Reconditioning your hair on a regular basis helps to minimize this.

You can also wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo tow or three times following with a reconditioning treatment.

Sometimes I see color washing out a day or two after I color my hair. Is this normal?

It’s good for your hair and hair color to use a tepid water temp so the cuticle layer doesn’t open up. There are colors that have a smaller molecular size and can wash out easier when the cuticle is open.

My hair color seems to fade so quickly, is there anything I can do about that?

Yes, using a Ph balanced shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair will help. Reconditioning your hair on a regular basis will ensure proper proteins and moisture are adequate and the cuticle layer will stay more compact and healthy.
